Tāne nui ā Rangi: difference through a metaphor of death and memory
Tāne nui ā Rangi, the monumental carved house, offers a vivid representation of everything meaningful to Māori – our histories, our rituals, our tribal narratives, our spirituality, our core values, our adornment, our differences – from each other, and from the others. By engaging with this house in the context of te awe kāpara, this presentation considers recent conflicts and their resolution, the significance of inscribing identity, and the potential of remembering, memorializing, and reflecting on common human experience.
