We have successfully completed our 4th International Indigenous Conference; Kei muri i te awe kāpara, he tangata kē: Recognising, Engaging and Understanding Difference.

We thank all those who made it possible - supporting, attending and contributing to the four-day event. Special thanks to our sponsors, invited speakers, overseas and local delegates and the staff who worked to organise the conference and its functions. The event provided the platform for indigenous opinions, research and knowledge to be shared; networks to be established; and collaborations to be made. Delegates came from over 12 countries with the total number of delegates exceeding 460.

Our overall aim was to build relationships that engage, understand, and accommodate difference to overcome the adverse effects resulting from failure to understand sufficiently the differences among indigenous and non-indigenous communities and societies. This and much more was achieved. The value and similarities of the vairous indigenous communities represented showed the potential for coordinated responses embracing indigeneity in an effort to address national and international issues, and importantly to realise the potential of indigenous perspectives, knowledge and cultures. Adding to the overall outcome and value of an international event we gained an appreciation and understanding of the depth and breadth of indigenous transformation research in the world: its complexities, challenges and opportunities.

Invited speakers and our researchers’ talks were filmed and we intend too post these online in the coming months. Photos of the conference have been posted to this website and we expect to add more in the coming weeks.
Conference papers are being compiled for editing and inclusion in the proceedings, which we hope to publish late this year.

Offical photographs from the conference are available online from this link.
